Art - Textiles AS/A2 at Roundwood Park School

Course description

In the Sixth Form we aim to encourage an adventurous and enquiring approach to Art. Students are expected to produce artwork that embraces a range of ideas and demonstrate an understanding of past and contemporary art practice. Both AS and A level courses provide a strong foundation for further study in Art, Craft or Design or for related activities such as architecture. Many of our students go on to study at Prestigious Art Colleges. However, we do not view art as a purely vocational subject but one that also develops intellectual, imaginative, creative and intuitive powers and critical analysis.

Trips, Workshops

A Level students have a chance to take part in a 3 day Art trip abroad. Historically this has been to Paris but other venues are being considered for the future.

Recent Gallery visits have included, Fitz William Art Gallery, Cambridge Botanical Gardens, Prism Textiles Exhibition, Saatchi Gallery, V&A Museum, National Portrait Gallery, and Tate Britain.

We invite artists in to run workshops with students. These have included Life Drawing classes, Willow Sculpture and Large Paper Sculpture workshops. Further workshops and gallery visits are planned for the next year.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C or above, with B grades in relevant subjects (including English Language at grade B) for any advanced level course, including traditional A levels, Applied A levels and Advanced Vocational Awards.
