Course description

What will I study? This course allows students a sound grounding in a number of areas whilst still exploring the subject in depth. Students will gain a broad knowledge of materials and media through: - • Acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge and language to create, develop and present high quality personal work. • Understand Art design, methods and principles. • Explore working methods using primary and secondary sources independently. What will I achieve? Students who achieve these qualifications can enter a variety of foundation or degree level courses in subjects related to Art and Design. It also prepares candidates for further study or training in preparation for employment. How is the course assessed? Internally assessed units take the form of work designed to enable the candidate to demonstrate understanding of the content of the unit. Each internal assessment is set by the centre to OCR guidelines, is internally marked and externally moderated by OCR. AS GCE candidates take one unit of external assessment What else will I do? You may have the opportunity to work with Business and Community partners in developing projects related to the course of study.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 A*-C GCSE grades. GCSE Art is not essential, we will look at individual cases. An enjoyment of Art and an ability to draw are important however.

Future opportunities

You would do A2 Art in the second year to gain a full GCE. You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as History of Art to prepare for higher education in areas of art and design, photography, architecture or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to art and design such as an Architect, Interior or Fashion Designer. The course will also encourage you to explore your creative mind and help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
