Wood - NVQ Level 3 Wood Occupations - Bench/Site at Calderdale College

Course description

This is a practical and theory based course which consists of the student/candidate working through a number of work related units following a bench joinery route.

Course content

These are achieved through assessment by observation, questioning, practical phase test and external examination. Work related units are:Unit no VR01 - Conform to general workplace safety.Unit no VR09 - Install first fixing components.Unit no VR10 - Second fixing components.Unit no VR209 - Confirm work activities & resources for the work.Units no VR26 - Set up & use fixed or transportable machinery. Units no VR27B - Produce complex shaped product details.Units no VR29B - Manufacture complex shaped products.Units no VR13 - Set up and use circular saws.6 units are chosen out of the above 8 options.Upon completion of each job knowledge pack the student has to undertake a unit end test.

Teaching is delivered in two distinct formats.  Workshop tuition supported by a workshop technician and technical lectures incorporating group work, self study and IT.

Entry requirements

Applicants should possess NVQ Level 2 in Wood Occupations or a level 2 Diploma.  You will be Interviewed by a specialist tutor and be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and good communication skills.

Interview with a specialist tutor.  Candidates are required to show enthusiasm and commitment to the course.

Assessment

Continuous assessment throughout the course based on:  Practical observation, Oral questioning, Portfolio evidence and Written assessment.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.
