A Level Sociology at Spalding Grammar School
Sociology is the systematic study of human social life, groups and societies. As a sociology student you will investigate the institutions of your own society such as the education system, the criminal justice system and religion. The subject is challenging and thought provoking because it requires you to question your existing knowledge and beliefs.
Sociology is available as either a one-year AS course or a two-year AS + A2 course following the AQA specification. Assessment is by way of written exams.
Although previous experience of the subject at GCSE is an initial advantage, experience has shown that there is no difference in terms of exam success between those who have and those who have not studied GCSE Sociology.
At least a grade B in GCSE Sociology.
Students who have not studied GCSE Sociology will require at least a grade B in GCSE English Language.
The specification lays an appropriate foundation for further study of Sociology and related subjects in higher education. In addition, it provides a worthwhile course for students of various ages and from diverse backgrounds in terms of general education and lifelong learning. Equally, material studied would be useful for students intending to pursue careers in the field of Social Sciences.
