Course content

What you will study

Four core units:
 
The Business Environment
Business Resources
Introduction to Marketing
Business Communication
 
Plus fourteen units covering topics such as finance, human resource management, small business start-up, event management, business ethics, law, retail and supply chain organisation.
 
Maths and English are key elements of any full-time programme of study in College. 
Skills in Maths and English will support your full-time course, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C (or new grade 9-4) . This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.
 

How you will learn

Through formal lessons, case studies, business-related activities, individual research, guest speakers and visits.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at A*-C (new grade 9-4) including English and Maths
OR
4 GCSEs at A*-C (new grade 9-4)
AND
Level 2 Functional Skills in either English or Maths, and
Grade D (new grade 3) or Level 1 Functional Skills in the other
 

Assessment

Internally assessed assignments.

Financial information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students.
Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any resit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international students.

Future opportunities

A range of higher education courses such as HNCs, honours degrees and foundation degrees, such as the HNC Business and the Foundation Degree Management and Business Enterprise both offered by Wakefield College. Alternatively there are opportunities for Apprenticeships in areas such as Accounting and Business Administration.

A wide range of business careers such as accounting technician, facilities officer, fundraiser, housing officer, insurance claims settler, legal secretary, paralegal or trainee legal executive, customer services officer or retail management.

      Wakefield Campus is home to our Sixth Form, where students can choose from a wide range of AS/A Levels. Vocational courses at all levels can also be studied here – Business Studies, ICT, Hospitality and Catering, Travel and Tourism, Health and Social Care, Childcare, Animal Care... to name but a few.
