Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair IMIAL Level 2 Diploma at Bridgwater College
This course is for those who would like to study on a full time basis, have completed a level 1 Pre-Apprenticeship programme or equivalent and are looking to progress onto an apprenticeship or employment in Heavy or Light Vehicle. This course is also ideal for those who have at least 1 year's relevant trade experience and would like to gain a skills-based qualification.
This course is also for you if you are between the ages of 16 and 32 and interested in joining the Army whilst studying vehicle mechanics (or intending to study) in Further Education, then the new Army Bursary Scheme is the way into a fantastic new learning experience that will enable you to earn while you learn.
Topics covered will include; advanced health and safety, removal and replacement of heavy vehicle units and components, routine vehicle maintenance and safety inspections with emphasis focused on the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) Heavy Goods Vehicle Inspection manual. You will also get hands on experience using a fully computerised vehicle braking efficiency roller tester.
You will study the theory and operating principles of all major vehicle systems at level 2 which will include: diesel engines, tyres, brakes, steering and suspension, vehicle electrical and electronic systems and fault diagnosis. You will get the opportunity to use modern vehicle electrical diagnostic equipment as part of the course.
You will need to have completed the pre-apprenticeship Level 1 programme in Light or Heavy Vehicle, with merits in all exams. For individuals with no formal qualifications, who have at least 1 years relevant trade experience may be accepted on the course upon successful interview and knowledge assessment.
Learners will be assessed through practical tasks, written assignments/exams and online tests for each unit.
Students may like to progress onto an apprenticeship programme (subject to initial assessment and suitable employment in a commercial vehicle workshop), or complete a full time Level 3 Diploma in Heavy Vehicle.
