English Language A2 Level at Grantham College

Course description

If you choose to study English language you will develop a wide range of transferable skills such as text analysis, critical reading and creative use of language, which offer excellent preparation for both further study and employment. You will develop understanding of both written and spoken English language working in real life situations and contexts. You will also have the opportunity to debate contentious issues and be a creative and original producer of varied texts.

Course content

You will undertake an investigation into an aspect of language of your choice. You will study how children acquire language, how language changes over time and how language is used in the media, and you will continue to develop original writing for real world purposes.

Entry requirements

GCSE English Language, preferably at Grade B.

Assessment

Examination Board: OCR. These details are subject to change

  • Two 2 ½ hour examinations: Exploring language and Dimensions of Linguistic Variation.
  • Independent language investigation and an academic poster (coursework)

Financial information

Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.  Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.

Future opportunities

English Language can be used to gain entry to university in combination with other subjects.
