Engineering BTEC Level 2 at Runshaw College
What will I learn?
Our Level 2 course is a mixture of learning and doing, allowing you to try a whole range of designing and manufacturing activities. Our facilities are excellent and include dedicated IT rooms with industry standard software.
The practical nature of much of the work means that you will get the opportunity to do some of your work in our purpose built workshops where you will study a total of eleven units during the year, including: Investigating an Engineered Product, Machining Techniques, Vehicle Electrical Systems and Vehicle Engines and Other Systems.
As part of the course you will also study English and Maths to help you reach your full potential.
Trips and visits are a key part of the course and you will have the chance to take part in visits to industry, skiing in Italy, paintballing, fundraising activities and five-a-side football competitions.
For access to our Level 2 courses, our entry requirements are 4 x grade D equivalent (4 x Grade 3 or D).
For Engineering specifically, this should include grade 3 in Maths AND grade D in Science.
The course is assessed by two external exams. All other units are assessed continually throughout the year by coursework, which takes the form of assignments, set at intervals throughout the year.
What progression is there?
Successful completion of the course can lead to progression to another Level 3 course in college, an Apprenticeship or employment. All our Level 2 students will have the opportunity to apply for a Runshaw Apprenticeship and assistance in seeking employment.
