Chemistry at Calder High School

Course description

It is recommended that you always read the Chemistry AS/A2 textbook book in order to keep up with the background to the chemistry studied in class.

The Chemistry Review magazine also provides up to date chemistry research and covers areas such as revision, exam questions and so on.

It is highly recommended that you prepare for coursework activities by revising the relevant laboratory tasks carried out beforehand.

Course content


Unit 1 (15%) Atoms, bonds and groups

Unit 2 (25%) Chains, energy and resources

Unit 3 (10%) Controlled assessment – practical skills


Unit 4 (15%) Rings, polymers and analysis

Unit 5 (25%) Equilibria, energetics and elements

Unit 6 (10%) Controlled assessment – ipractical skills

B in core Science (Higher Tier) and B in Additional Science (Higher Tier) not Additional Applied or Dual
