Tourism Level 3 Diploma at Warwickshire College Group

Course description

Tourism is the world's single biggest industry, covering everything from international airlines and global hotel chains down to family run restaurants and private tour guiding.  

Tourism in Warwickshire is a thriving industry, with visitors spending an estimated £941 million each year, visiting the county.  The industry supports some 23,500 jobs in the region, so it is a great industry, particularly for young people to pursue. 

The aim of this programme is to develop your knowledge and experience of travel and tourism both in terms of its theory and practice.  The course gives you the opportunity to broaden your studies to cover specialist travel careers and will give you the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge which will prepare you for employment. 

Course content

  • Promotions and Sales in Travel and Tourism 
  • Tourism in the UK 
  • Overseas Representatives 
  • Work Placement in Travel and Tourism 
  • Package Holidays 
  • Foreign Exchange 
  • Principles of supervising customer service, performance in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism
  • Principles of Marketing 

Entry requirements

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or C and above including Maths OR English, or a Merit in a Level 2 qualification and Maths OR English GCSE grade 4 or C or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths OR English.

You will have a positive school or college reference with good levels of attendance and punctuality.

Assessment

You will be taught through a series of workshops, guest speakers and visits. you will work in group, pairs and independently, contributing to seminars and presentations to demonstrate what you have learnt.  

A variety of methods are used to assess your progress including examination, individual and group presentations, case studies, assignments, projects, work based assignments, developing learning resources, and display work. You will achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade for each module according to how well you cover the learning outcomes specified.

Future opportunities

The course aims to equip you with skills to succeed in employment or to progress to a Level 2 Cabin Crew qualification.  You could also undertake a Level 3 Diploma in Events Management which could enable you to progress to a higher education qualification.
