Hairdressing Diploma VRQ at Solihull College & University Centre

Course description

The VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing is the natural progression from the Level 1 course for those who wish to study in the profession, in this instance, on a full time basis. On the Level 2 programme you will study more in-depth about the techniques and styles used by the professionals, how to cut hair as specifically asked for by the clients as well as getting to grips with health and safety protocol in the workplace.

Course content

On the course you will learn:
- Shampooing
- Health and safety
- Client consultation
- Blow-drying hair
- Cutting techniques
- Colouring techniques

Entry requirements

Level 1 hairdressing qualification, D/3 grade and above in English and Maths Successful interview and a satisfactory reference.


Assessment is by practical observations, course work, assignments and external tests.

Future opportunities

Learners will be qualified to enter industry as a developing stylist or can progress on to a higher level of learning with the Level 3 qualification.

Further information

A target of 88% attendance is needed to complete the course, however,100% is expected.
You will undertake one week of work experience. You will have the option to attend trips with the college (e.g. clothes show).

- Uniform cost TBC- Training head cost TBC. Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.
If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.

    • Woodlands Campus

      An £8.5 million expansion of our Woodlands Campus now incorporates a new state of the art specialist centre for multi-craft, bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering, carpentry and an expanded motor vehicle training facility. A new sports pitch also enhances the existing sports facilities.

      The new Engineering and Construction facility houses twelve new workshops; six for construction and six for motor vehicle. The rooms accommodate an MOT/motor sport workshop; an engine workshop and further rooms for decorating, plastering and brickwork.

      Woodlands has purpose-built engineering workshops as well as commercial-standard hair and beauty salons. Our IT facilities, learning resource centres and library are also first-rate.

      We also offer a selection of higher education courses at our Woodlands Campus so you can continue your studies with us.

      Via Bus or Train

      The main bus terminal in north Solihull is located in Chelmsley Wood centre. The number 94, 676, 694, 71, 966 and 966A stop at the main terminal with the number 94 stopping on Auckland Drive. The nearest train stations are Marston Green or Water Orton station both located approximately 20 minutes away.
