Plumbing Level 1 at City College Brighton and Hove
Would you like a career that can be very financially rewarding? The Plumbing industry continues to grow and can be a rewarding career. Our courses have been designed to give you the skills and training required to start work in the plumbing industry and the confidence and knowledge you will need to promote yourself and win contracts.
If you are interested in career in Plumbing then this is the entry course for you. The course requires up to 5 days a week in which you must attend the college, along with regular homework and an element of self study at home.
This course covers 6 theory subjects:
- Introduction to Construction Work
- Principles of Health and Safety
- Handling and Storing Materials and Components
- Personal Work Skills
- Introduction to Self employment
The course consists of ongoing practical assessments and written assignments and is roughly split 50/50 between practical and theoretical work. There are 5 practical assessments to complete along with the theory assignments.
5 GCSEs at grade D, to include Maths, English and Science.
Applicants will also need to pass the aptitude test set at
interview with 50%.
Interview for entry: Interview required
You will also be required to take a BPEC test and get 55% as well as other assessment tasks.
We suggest you prepare for this by undertaking some general Maths revision covering calculating volume and area, material quantities, percentages, taking measurements, basic maths including long division and multiplication, interpreting information on charts and servicing instructions.
On-going written and practical assessments.
If you are successful in applying for this course you will need to purchase a textbook, specific stationery, tools and protective clothing and equipment. The list will be given to you by Admissions.
This Foundation Plumbing course will equip you for consideration for progression to Level 2 courses either as a full-time student or as an apprentice in Plumbing (subject to completion of Level 1 portfolio and satisfactory end of year report). From there you can progress to a Level 3 course in your chosen specialist area.
