Geography A level at Wilmslow High School

Course description

We study the AQA specification. This specification focuses on the study of contemporary geography and the relationship between human populations over space and time with the environment. The examples we study are from a variety of scales from local to global. Integrated into the course are a variety of different types of skills; investigative, cartographic, graphical, ICT and statistical. The AQA specification is currently in draft format and is therefore subject to change.

Course content

The topics we expect to cover at AS are:
Global Governance

A level Geography The topics we expect to cover in A-level geography are the three listed above for As geography plus the following three topics:

  • The water and carbon Cycle
  • Changing Places
  • Population

Entry requirements

Students are required to have achieved a grade C or above on the Geography higher paper, and C grades in English and mathematics. However, we strongly recommend a grade B or above in GCSE Geography.

An ability to write clearly and concisely, to use numerical data accurately and to present results appropriately will increase your chances of success. A genuine interest in the world around you and the people on the planet will increase your enjoyment of the topics.
