Agriculture City & Guilds 90-Credit Diploma (QCF) at Cornwall College

Course description

Ideal if: you have some agricultural experience or have worked for at least one year in the industry and wish to develop your practical skills and knowledge of the agricultural sector. The course is full time for one year and will develop your skills and knowledge of a range of agricultural enterprises reflecting the husbandry of the area. It is also the first year of the Agriculture City & Guilds Extended Diploma so you could go on to study for another year and improve your prospects even more.

You'll need: four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and mathematics, or a level 2 diploma at merit or above.

You'll learn: about crop production, animal production and machinery maintenance and operation delivered through a combination of lectures, resource based learning, practical sessions, visits and assignments.

Expect: to develop skills and knowledge of a full range of agricultural enterprises reflecting the husbandry practices of the industry.

You'll love: gaining a wide variety of experience from practical work on the College farm.

You'll go onto: employment in agriculture or progression to the second year of the Agriculture City & Guilds Extended Diploma or an agriculture apprenticeship.

Course content

The course develops skills and knowledge of a full range of agricultural enterprises reflecting the husbandry practices of the industry. Modules will include crop production, animal production and machinery maintenance and operations.

This is a 1 year, full time course starting in September, delivered through a combination of lectures, resource based learning, practical sessions, visits and assignments.

Entry requirements

Students need to be aged 16 or over and have some knowledge of the industry together with four GCSEs at grades A* - C (including English and mathematics) or a Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above with Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English.

Future opportunities

Employment opportunities in Agriculture and its related industries are currently very good. Successful students can expect to gain employment within the industry at an operational level or to progress to the second year of the City & Guilds Extended Diploma in Agriculture or to the Agriculture Advanced Apprenticeship.
