Art and Design BTEC Level 3 at Dyson Perrins CofE Academy

Course description

The BTEC qualifications are designed to provide highly specialist, work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment. The qualifications provide career development opportunities to higher education, degree and professional development programmes. Students will have the chance to explore a breadth of art techniques, ranging from fine art, textiles, 3D studies, photography and many more.

Subsidiary Diploma Level 3 Art and Design (60 credits). This course is completed over two years. This qualification is the natural pathway from vocational level 2 taken at Key Stage 4. It is a vocational qualification that focuses on developing skills that will develop your creativity while also building an awareness of how to apply your skills in the business world. There is no examination for this qualification, it is 100% coursework and internally assessed and externally moderated by the examining body.

This course is equivalent to one A Level. It consists of 4 mandatory units which include:
* Unit 1 Visual recording in Art and Design
* Unit 2 Materials, techniques and processes in Art and Design
* Unit 3 Ideas and concepts in Art and Design
* Unit 4 Communication through Art and Design There are also 2 optional units where students can pursue their own personal field of interest.

Entry requirements

To be successful in this qualification, ideally students need to have completed either GCSE Art and Design or a vocational level 2 pass with either a Merit or Distinction. However, students without these qualifications wishing to do Art must see a member of the art staff to discuss their suitability.
