A Level History at Moseley Park
In Year 12 students will begin their studies with two units of study. One unit explores Germany from 1919 to 1963, covering the aftermath of WWI and the treaty of Versailles, the German Revolution, Weimar Germany, The rise of Nazism, the Nazi State, Post War
Germany: The GDR and The FDR.
The other Unit covers Britain 1900- 1924 and is based around source investigations of key topics such as: Why were the fortunes of the political parties so varied in the period from 1900 to 1914? How did war and the problems it bequeathed affect the political parties from 1918 to 1924? What demands were there for constitutional change and how important were they for democracy and the future of the political parties? What were the causes, nature and impact of social reform in the period from 1900 to 1924?
In Year 13 students will study their third examination Unit on Russia 1855-1964 which covers the reigns of the last three Romanov Tsars (Alexander II, Alexander III and Nicholas II) Lenin and the Russian Revolution of 1917, the rise and dictatorship of Stalin, Khrushchev and ‘De-Stalinization’.
Students will then complete coursework on The Cold War. This will involve exploring Wartime Disagreements between the USSR and the West, Soviet policies towards Europe 1945-9, The USA and Containment, The Cold war and Asia, The significance of the Arms race. This will then be assessed with two pieces of coursework.

5 A* – C’s including English. Grade C or above in History is preferable.
Year 12: Two exams on Germany 1919-1963 and Britain 1900-1924
Year 13: an exam on Russia 1855-1964 and coursework on The Cold War.
All of the students who have taken A Level History have gone on to university to study a variety of courses. A Level history is respected by British universities as a serious and “heavy weight” qualification.CAREER PATHWAYS
