Course description

What’s it about ?

•Develop their interest in and enthusiasm for a rigorous study of religion and relate it to the wider world.

•Treat the subject as an academic discipline by developing knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to the specialist study of philosophy.

•Adopt an enquiring, critical and reflective approach to the study of philosophical ideas.

•Reflect on and develop their own values, opinions and attitudes in the light of their learning.

Course content

 AS Year:

Unit 1: Philosophy.

Unit 2: Ethics.

Unit 3: Developments in Islam.

 A2 Year:

Unit 1: Philosophy.

Unit 2: Ethics.

Unit 3: Developments in Islam.

Entry requirements

Candidates must have a minimum of a grade C in English.

Assessment

AS – written exam in each Unit - each Unit is 33.3% of total AS Level marks.

A2 – written exam in each Unit - each Unit is 33.3% of total A2 Level marks.

Future opportunities

According to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Service, AGCS, Philosophy/Theology graduates go into a wide range of careers; however, they and their employers feel that it particularly prepares students for the following careers: education sector, legal sector, journalism, social work, medical sector, politics, publishing, broadcast, film, video and interactive media, law and justice sector.
