Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development (Exploring Creative Industries) - NOCN Level 1 Diploma at East Durham College
The NOCN programme allows you to explore the four areas of Creative Industries - Art & Design / Media / Music and Performing Arts. Key aspects of the programme provide you with the opportunity to experience working in a vibrant industry through activities such as crewing the Community Pantomime, performing as a zombie in the Zombie Apocalypse, showing your collection on the catwalk in a Fashion Show and creating a film trailer to advertise your next project. At the root of learning is the development of transferable skills such as developing communication and teamwork skills.
The programme is 'learner responsive' which means we allow the learners to decide on the focus of projects. As well as this independence, you will also participate in annual events such as the pantomime and Zombie Apocalypse, with units built around these projects.
3 GCSEs (or equivalent) with any grade and working towards Functional Skills Entry 3 in Maths and English.
The work you complete is graded as 'Pass' or 'Not Yet Achieved' and you will have two opportunities to submit work for assessment for each unit. The course is assessed internally by an Assessor, before being Internally Verified to check the marking is consistent. We receive a visit from an External Verifier who looks at the work completed and approves the release of certificates.
If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.
Progression after this programme could be to an OCR Cambridge Technicals level 2 programme in Art & Design / Media / Music or Performing Arts. You will have exposure to a range of practical activities that you may be able to progress through volunteer opportunities.
