Art and design - photography *FEES PAYABLE* at Sackville School

Course description

Photography includes artwork in film, video, digital imaging and surface manipulation. Frequently,
the techniques of the different disciplines are used to convey messages and create works of other
graphic disciplines, such as television advertisements and the use of photographic images in
magazines, books, advertisements and in digital forms. In the context of this specification,
disciplines will include photography, digital photography, 35mm black/white dark room, film and
video. Students will be required to work in one or more of these disciplines.
What do I study?
AS photography
Unit 1 thematic and expressive enquiry 60% AS, 30% A2
Unit 2 externally set exam 40% AS, 20% A2
A2 photography
Unit 3 practical and personal study 30% A2
Unit 4 externally set exam 20% A2
In addition to school based studies you are encouraged to:
- visit galleries to widen and strengthen your understanding of contemporary issues
- participate off site on a 4 day residential field study.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade B/C or above in art and design. English grade B or above especially if going onto A2. However, it is not necessary to have taken an art related subject at GCSE
