Art with Textiles A Level at Kingswood Secondary Academy

Course description

This course involves students building upon the skills and knowledge gained from GCSE textiles.This course will interest those students who wish to continue developing their textiles education.

This is an exciting course but also demanding,as it involves learning and mastering varied textile skills such as Batik, machine embroidery and printing to name just a few. Students will have to use these taught skills to develop their own independent project work.They will also be expected to develop critical and contextual work.

Course content

You will be taught key textiles skills through a range of workshop style lessons. You will study textile artists and will be required to visit at least one gallery. You will be guided to work independently through projects to explore a variety of experiences and processes. You will be expected to collect and research your own materials and gatheryour own primary resources. Work will be presented in sketch books and study sheets.

Units covered at AS
– Unit I: Coursework portfolio.
– Unit 2: Externally set assignment.

Units covered at A2
– Unit 3: Personal investigation.
– Unit 4: Externally set assignment.

Entry requirements

5+ A*-C grades at GCSE – including C and above in English language and B grade in GCSE textiles.

– Written feedback
– Units marked by teaching staff at the end of May

Future opportunities

The course could lead onto:
– Art Foundation ( 1 year course).
– Degree course in chosen area of study e.g.Textiles design.
