Art and Design A-Level at Diss High School
This course gives students the opportunity to develop personal strengths, as well as to learn new techniques. The central core of the work involves drawing and painting in a variety of media as well as providing the possibility of working in sculpture, printmaking, graphics or photography.
Candidates are assessed on one major unit of coursework, as well as a final practical exam, in each year. The first year of the course is designed to encourage investigation and experimentation with a wide range of materials and techniques. A personal/contextual study is an important element of the second year, and past students have produced exciting work on a wide range of themes.
If you are considering A-Level Art and Design, you will obviously be interested in the whole area and have some artistic skills. The ability to record information through drawing is an essential requirement. Grade B at GCSE should be considered as the minimum entry grade for Art and Design.
You are required to have at least five Cs at GCSE including Maths and English Language at Grade C.
Art grade B
Students are often very dedicated to the subject, spend a lot of time out of classes working on their practical assignments and may be considering taking the subject in higher education. There are a lot of career opportunities open to people with qualifications in Art and Design, in the field of graphic communication.
