Maths AS Level at Parkside School

Course description

The Mathematics course consists of 3 modules in Year 12 followed by 3 more in Year 13, for those students wishing to obtain the A level qualification. The AS qualification involves studying 2 modules of Pure Mathematics which will include algebra, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, sequences and calculus. For the third module students will study statistics.

Entry requirements

The Mathematics course requires sound understanding of previous work, so students who have not followed the GCSE Higher course, obtaining at least a grade B, will not be considered for AS Level Mathematics and a higher grade would be preferable.  The course will support work in other subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economics and Psychology.

Future opportunities

An A level qualification in Mathematics will prove vital for students going on to study Sciences, Medicine, Business, Economics or ICT at University.
