Art and Design (Graphic Communication) at Highcliffe School
The specification develops students' artistic and practical abilities through knowledge, understanding, skills and application for designing graphic outcomes. Graphic Communication encompasses a wide range of design disciplines including art, photography, typography and new media such as the Adobe suite, including Photoshop and Illustrator as well as animaton and CAD/Web design.
AS Level- Component 1 portfolio of work covering a wide range of wet, dry and printing media processes as well as ICT based processes and techniques. Component 2 - externally set practical assignment including a development period and 10 hours supervised time (Exam).
A Level - Component 1 portfolio of work including a personal investigation. Component 2 - externally set practical assignment including a development period
AS Level 60% of marks - development of individual and graphic skills investigating and working through a number of short project briefs. Each short project will revolve around a particular set of Art and Design skills.
A Level 60% of marks - as year 12 above but extended to include their own personal investigation, often in conjunction with a client. They will work closely with their client to deliver appropriate yet marketable outcomes.
