Business Studies at Uplands Community College School Sixth Form

Course description

The Business Studies A Level course has been designed to provide students with a critical understanding of how business organisations function and the internal and external issues that can affect them.

Students are encouraged to develop their own independent studying techniques as well as their presentation skills through group work activities.

Entry requirements

5 A*- C grades at GCSE including grade C or above in English Language.  It is not necessary to have studied Business at GCSE Level.

Assessment

The style of assessment is designed to provide a progression in terms of knowledge and assessment objectives.  At AS Level, assessment is based upon the use of relatively brief stimulus materials.  The A2 assessment is focused on two specific areas of business activity, which may include marketing, accounting or human resources.  Much of the pre exam work is based on the use of case studies, which explore the way real businesses operate in a competitive global economy.

Future opportunities

Many students who study Business also study Law as it plays an ever-increasing role in all areas of business.  Students who have studied Business may go on to specialise in a particular area of study at University e.g. Marketing or Accounting and Finance.
