NVQ Customer Service at Appleby Heritage Centre

Course description

This course is aimed at anybody who is currently working in or considering employment in a customer service environment within any industry. It is a vocational qualification based upon your practical experiences in the workplace. It places the emphasis on what you can actually do and not just what you know about a subject.

Course content

The NVQ is made up of a number of units that will enable you to demonstrate that you are competent in performing a variety of customer service related tasks. To gain a full qualification you need to gain a minimum of 28 credits.

Mandatory Units - 8 credits

  • Communicate using customer service language
  • Follow the rules to deliver customer service

Optional Units - 20 credits

  • Impression and image
  • Delivery of customer service
  • Handling problems
  • Development and improvement



Entry requirements

A good basic general education.

This qualification is currently offered at Level 2 and 3, and is particularly useful to those who wish to work in a customer service environment within, for example retail, hairdressing, reception, or travel and tourism environments.



Units are assessed separately alongside other qualifications.  There is no formal examination.  Candidates complete units by gathering together a portfolio of evidence.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to employment in many customer service positions in almost any industry.  For those already in employment it may enhance your chances of promotion.
