Certificate in uses of Maths at Blackfen School for Girls
The AQA Certificate in Use of Mathematics is ideal for students who want to: learn Maths that is practical and relevant to the real world, focus on the application of Maths in tangible rather than abstract contexts, and understand numerical skills, problem solving and modelling. Use of Mathematics strives to be both practical and relevant to the real world, training students not only in mathematical skills but also in problem solving and modelling.
The AQA Certificate in Use of Mathematics is built from a compulsory core unit plus two Free-Standing Mathematics Qualifications (FSMQs) Money Management and Using data.
D (or below) GCSE Maths
Three externally written papers each have a weighting of 1/3 of the final qualification.
Unit 1 : Money management . This a 1 hour calculator paper
Unit 2: Using data. This is a 1 hour calculator paper.
Unit 3: Core Foundation featuring questions which combine finance, data, shape and algebra. This is a 1 hour and 15 minutes calculator paper.
The AQA Certificate in Use of Mathematics will be graded on an eight-grade scale: A*, A, B, C, D, E, F and G.
This course prepares students for further study and a wide range of careers. Use of Maths gives students the Maths basis to use in other studies, vocationally and in everyday life.
