Applied ICT at Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The vocational Certificate of Education is designed to provide knowledge and understanding of ICT in a vocational context. It aims to develop an understanding of the use of ICT in processing data in a variety of organisations.

AS comprises of 3 units of study. Each unit has a different theme to develop the students’ knowledge and understanding. One common theme throughout the units is the use of practical examples and the “hands-on” approach to develop ICT skills in all major software packages such as: · Word processing · Spreadsheets · Desktop Publishing · Multimedia · Graphics · Databases

The A2 course is designed to follow on from the AS course. Students will study a further 3 units and build upon their skills. By the end of the course students will have developed a range of highly valuable ICT skills regardless of their next move.

Entry requirements

Students should demonstrate a general interest in ICT, be prepared to work hard and should possess solid written communication skills. Students should have gained at least Grade C in ICT as a minimum entry requirement.
