Course description

Can you see yourself as a television hair and make-up stylist, image consultant or photographic make-up artist? With this qualification you could pursue any one of these exciting careers.

This innovative profession demands someone with creative flair, artistic talent and a good imagination. Is this you? Then carry on reading.

This course will suit you if you already have hair and make-up skills and you want to learn the techniques required to put your skills to the test with dramatic results.

Whether you’re applying make-up for someone on stage, positioning a wig for a character on TV, or applying special effects or prosthetics for an actor of a film, this varied job is sure to get your imagination running and creativity flowing.

Course content

Studying at ncn will give you access to all of the latest products, facilities and equipment that you would expect to find in the industry. 

This course has a practical approach but also covers essential theory-based modules too, including: health and safety in the workplace and the importance of skincare.

Units you will cover will teach you about photographic make-up, applying theatrical make-up, and using prosthetics and special effects make-up.

You will also cover:

• Airbrush and camouflage make-up 
• Face and body art
• Fantasy hair design for performers.

You will be set a number of practical challenges and projects during the course which will enable you to put your skills to the test.

Entry requirements

You must be 17+ and have ONE of the following:

  • 3 GCSEs – (3 at A* - C including Art, English & Maths. (Science is an advantage)
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Hairdressing/Nails/Beauty Therapy with an Art diploma or GCSE English & Maths A* - C or above and preferably Science at grade D or above

ALL students must have a strong artistic background.

Assessment

You will be assessed through practical observations, assignments, portfolio, and theory-based units and tests.

Future opportunities
