Early Years Education and Care Apprenticeship Level 2 at Warwickshire College Group
Students on this course need to be employed in an appropriate setting.
You will come to college once a month for Masterclass workshops and attend your work placement for four days a week. The apprenticeship as a whole is usually over 12-18 month period. You may also need to attend College for extra sessions if you need to study for your functional skills. An individual plan will be put in place for you.
The course is intended for school leavers and those wishing to pursue a career in working with children and/or young people. You must be at least sixteen years of age to do this course.
The course develops knowledge and skills relating to the children and young people's workforce so you will be intending to work with children in the age range birth to five years. This will be in early years and childcare, or children's social care, or learning development and support services.
The course consists of the following:
- Level 2 Certificate for Children & Young People's Workforce
- Functional Skills qualification in English, level 1
- Functional Skills qualification in Mathematics, level 1
- Functional Skills qualification in ICT, level 1
- Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights (ERR) in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People's Settings
There are two main components to the assessment of the Certificate. The knowledge part is assessed through assignment work and the competence part is assessed through workplace observations by an assessor.
Functional Skills are assessed through external tests.
ERR is assessed through the completion of a workbook
Personal learning and thinking skills are embedded within the main qualifications.
This course is intended to provide you with a good starting point for working within the childcare sector. Initially, you will be working under supervision, for example as a pre-school assistant or nursery assistant.
It will be possible to progress, following successful completion of the course, onto the Advanced Apprenticeship framework, or onto the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) if you continue with employment and your employer.
