Further Mathematics AS/A-Level at Cranford Community College

Course description

Students study 4 units of Core Mathematics, 2 units of Mechanics, 2 units of Statistics, 2 units of Decision Mathematics and 2 units of Further Pure Mathematics. See the Mathematics page for details of Core Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics.

Decision Mathematics uses Mathematical Modelling to find optimal solutions for real life problems. Providing a basis for much of the mathematical work that goes on in the financial industry this is a course that will open your eyes to the reality of mathematics in the real world and stretch your brain in new directions.

Further Pure Mathematics begins to delve into the realms of degree level Mathematics. This is undoubtedly one of the most challenging but also one of the most rewarding courses available at A Level.

Entry requirements

Normally A in higher tier Maths.

Assessment

  • 12 units equally weighted
  • 100% exam

Future opportunities

A Level Further Mathematics is required to study Mathematics at the top universities. It is also beneficial for other courses such as Accounting, Economics and Engineering.
