Applied Science at Outwood Grange Academy

Course description

The course covers aspects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics with approximately a third of each subject covered over the course of the qualification.

It is designed for learners who are interested in learning about the applied science sector alongside other areas of study such as the social sciences.

It is for students who may not want to go to university to study sciences but may be interested in a career or profession related to science.

Course content

What will I learn at AS Level?

  • Principles and key concepts of science
  • Practical and scientific techniques

What will I learn at A Level?

  • Scientific investigation skills
  • One optional biology unit

 

Entry requirements

5 A*-C (or grade 5's) including Maths, English and Science at GCSE are preferred in order to ensure success in this course.

Assessment

How will I be assessed at AS Level?

There will be an external exam as well as a portfolio of practical investigations to complete.

How will I be assessed at A Level?

There will be an external exam as well as a portfolio to complete.

Future opportunities

When incorporated with other A Levels this qualification can lead to a career in applied sciences as well as places on university courses such as Sports Science, Biomedical Science and Nursing.

The opportunity to learn and understand the core principles and practical applications that underpin applied science.

The practical skills and knowledge needed to plan investigations, collecting, analysing and presenting data and communicating results.
