Mathematics AS/A2 Level at The Bulwell Academy

Course description

Year 1

Core Mathematics 1& 2

Covering modelling, reasoning and proof, algebra, co-ordinate geometry, polynomials, curve sketching, sequences and series, trigonometry and calculus.

Statistics 1

Covering statistical processes, data presentation, probability, discrete random variables, the binomial distribution and hypothesis testing.


Year 2

Core Mathematics 3 & 4

Covering further modelling, reasoning and proof, exponentials and natural logarithms, functions, further calculus, numerical methods, further algebra, further trigonometry, parametric equations and vectors.

Decision Maths 1

Covering modelling, algorithms, graphs, networks, linear programming, critical path analysis and simulation.

Entry requirements


Because of the previous learning required, no student will be accepted on the A level course without a grade B in GCSE Mathematics.


Exam for each unit studied.

Future opportunities


Maths A level is needed before you will be accepted at University to study any of the following subjects: Engineering, Physics, Computing, Accountancy, Economics, Business, Banking, Air Traffic Control, Retail Management, Architecture, Surveying, Cartography, Psychology, Teaching and, of course, Mathematics itself.
