Sport & Active Leisure Level 1 BTEC Diploma at East Surrey College

Course description

The course is ideal as a first step for people with a keen interest in sport and leisure who wish to progress into a career in the sport and leisure industry. It has some physical activity and students will need to be enthusiastic and willing to join in a wide range of sports, as well as complete classroom work. In addition, students should allow at least one day for independent study. Students are also encouraged to look for part-time work, preferably in an industry related to their course.
 

Course content

The topics covered give a range of introductions to the body, exercise, practical sport and employment within sports industries. There will be an opportunity to complete a Functional Skills Level 1 Qualification in Numeracy and Literacy.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs grade A* - E or above, including English & Maths.

Assessment

There is continual assessment throughout the programme that allows students to constantly improve and develop their portfolio. Assessment comes in a range of forms including, leaflets, handbooks, essays and reports, practical assessment and observation, class tests, presentations, discussion seminars and practical projects.

Financial information

If you are under 19 on 31/08/2016, tuition is free. If you are 19 or over please consult Client Services for advice and guidance on funding and eligibility.
Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.

Future opportunities

Achieving and passing the course, as well as a good reference from the tutor, will allow students to move onto a Sport Level 2 BTEC Diploma or another Level 2 course. It can also lead to a range of jobs working in industries including, and not limited to, sport, outdoor and adventurous, social and youth work and events.
 

Further information

Students will need pens and paper and relevant stationary to complete basic classroom tasks. Students will also have the opportunity to be supplied with uniform from an outside agency, consisting of two shirts, which will have to be purchased by each student individually.
