Maths A Level at The Buckingham School - A Sports College

Course description

Mathematics is challenging and very rewarding. This course builds on the knowledge and skills that you acquired during your GCSE studies. It will increase your understanding of familiar ideas and introduce you to new concepts and techniques. You will develop your analytical and problem solving abilities in preparation for working in an industry requiring advanced mathematical skills.

Entry requirements

Our main requirement is that you have a real passion for Mathematics. You will need to be highly motivated and committed, particularly since you will be dealing with complex concepts and a high volume of work.

You will need to have good presentation skills and will be encouraged to read widely around your subject.

For A Level Maths, students must have a minimum A grade at GCSE.

Future opportunities

An AS or A level in mathematics is very valuable as a supporting subject to other Alevel courses, particularly in science, geography, psychology, economics and business studies. It is a well respected and much sought after qualification for entry to a wide variety of higher education courses and is strongly recommended for economics, medicine, architecture, engineering, accountancy, teaching, psychology, physics, computing, information and communication technology as well as continued mathematical or statistical studies.

People entering todays most lucrative industries such as IT, banking and the stock market need to be confident using mathematics on a daily basis.
