Performing Arts - Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma at Sir Herbert Leon Academy

Course description

This course is broadly equivalent to 3 A Levels and will help prepare Students for a career within the performing arts industry, teaching or any communication based industry where confidence, excellent team skills and presentation is needed as well as entry into University.

Course content

What will I study?

This course covers 18 units over two years with each unit focusing on an area of the industry. These units will be practically and theoretically based. You will look at performing, devising, producing, advertising and researching theatre.

  • Variety performance
  • Improvisation story telling
  • Musical theatre
What else will I do?

This course is varied and exciting for those interested in working in this industry. You will become a member of the in-house theatre company which will include opportunities to tour around the region. Workshops are available whereby companies visit the Academy and work with the Students on their performance and devising skills. Theatre trips for students are frequent to enhance your knowledge of contemporary and classical work.


All units will be assessed and graded by the Unit Tutor and internally verified by the Course Co-ordinator with some units being externally verified by the examination board.
