BTEC Engineering Level 3 at Belfairs Academy
You will gain knowledge and understanding on how to use a range of materials, equipment and processes associated with product manufacture. You will also gain experience in developing products with the use of traditional and modern techniques (CAD CAM).
This subject combines well with Physics, Maths and Geography. It is a useful stepping stone towards degree qualifications in Engineering, Civil Engineering and Product Design. The course is practically based and delivered in our state of the art engineering workshop facility.
Yr 12 (BTEC Level 3 Certificate) The course consists of one mandatory unit and two optional units.
Unit 1: Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace (mandatory)
Unit 4: Mathematics for Technicians (optional)
Unit 16: Engineering Drawing for Technicians (optional)
Yr 13 (BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma) The units covered in year 12 will be carried over into year 13 to form the foundation of the Subsidiary Diploma which consists of six units. In addition to the three units covered in year 12, the following units will be covered.
Unit 6: Electrical and Electronic Principles (Specialist Mandatory)
Unit 21: Engineering Secondary and Finishing Techniques
Unit 31: Computer Aided Manufacturing (optional)
C grade minimum in English and Mathematics or a Merit in Level 2 Engineering.
All units are assessed by the completion of assignments and evidence provided in the form of portfolios. Candidates will be awarded a pass, merit, distinction or distinction* if successful in completing the course. The Certificate is equivalent to an AS Level and the Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to a full A Level.
Students can use the qualification to go on to Higher Education or enter the Engineering Industry. Belfairs Academy has a number of strong links with local employers such as IPECO.
