Critical Thinking at The John of Gaunt School

Course description

A one year course leading to an AS qualification from OCR.

This is a cross-curricular course developing the science of argument. There isn’t a large body of information to be learned – instead students practice a set of academic skills that will support their performance in A Level/university exams in all subjects as well as help students produce high quality UCAS Personal Statements, academic and professional presentations and job applications.

Entry requirements

This course is for students of high ability so you will be invited to study this course depending on your GCSE grades. It is desirable that students have the academic skills such as reasoning, analysing and evaluating in order to be successful on this course. A general interest in current affairs would be advantageous but not essential.

Assessment

AS Level only – AQA

Two AS exams (1.5 hours each), usually between mid-May and early June.
