Nail Services Level 2 Diploma at Newbury College
The Level 2 Diploma in Nail Services is a nationally recognised qualification and offers you the opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding in the Nail Industry and can lead to employment or self employment in a growing industry. A lot of practice will need to be completed at home to obtain a pass in this qualification and it is advised to buy a kit to be able to do this. You must ensure your attendance remains above 90% to enable you to be successful on your course.
The course is delivered over one year and you will be in College three to four days a week - days to be confirmed.
The units you will cover on this course include: manicure, pedicure, nail art, apply and maintain nail enhancements, health and safety, salon reception duties, maintain effectiveness at work and promote additional services.
Students will be expected to work on each other initially until passing a formative assessment then they will work on paying clients. All students will complete three days on reception and this may be on days which are not normally timetabled for classes.
During the course leading manufacturers, suppliers and trade specialists may visit the college and carry out demonstrations of products and techniques. This may be at an additional cost to the course and a certificate may be issued.
Students will have the choice to go to a Nails and Beauty exhibition. At this exhibition you will see up to date trends and treatments and have the chance to purchase specialist products and equipment.
Learners will be required to have five GCSE passes at grade D or above, preferably including English, Science and Maths. Alternatively, learners will be accepted onto the course if they have an equivalent vocational qualification at merit grade, and Functional Skills Maths and English, preferably at Level 1. All learners must have achieved, or show the ability to achieve, Maths and English grade D or equivalent. Where a learner has not yet fulfilled this requirement a Functional Skill qualification is a mandatory part of this course. All learners will, however, have the opportunity to improve their English and Maths skills alongside their course where appropriate. Mature students are encouraged to apply as life skills will be considered an asset. Students must be articulate; good communication skills are essential for this course. Students will need to spend about 12 hours a week on home study.
All Beauty Therapy programmes are assessed through a combination of the following: Observation of practical work on clients. Projects, assignments and case studies, written and oral questioning and building a portfolio of evidence to be submitted for assessment. Exams for each unit will be online exams throughout the year. An internal and external verifier will verify students' work before a certificate is awarded.
The achievement of this course will offer you progression onto the level 3 nail course, or to go onto level 2 beauty or hair course. It will also give you the qualification to go into employment or self employment in the nail services industry.
