Civil Engineering Apprenticeship Advanced Level 3 at Southampton City College

Course description

This apprenticeship is suitable for you if you want to start a career or develop your existing skills in the civil engineering aspect of the construction industry.  As a civil engineering advanced apprentice your  will be involved in planning, designing and managing all types of construction projects from bridge repairs to the building of new sports stadiums. Employment opportunities exist with engineering consultancy companies, building and civil engineering contractors, gas and electricity supply companies, transport authorities, and the public sector.

Course content

Duties typically include:

  • Drawing up blue prints using computer aided design (CAD)
  • Assessing the environmental impact and risks connected to projects
  • Discussing requirements with the client
  • Analysing survey, mapping and materials-testing data with computer modelling software

Entry requirements

A full assessment will take place to ensure you have the skills to complete the qualification. As this is an advanced apprenticeship, all applicants will require GCSEs at grade A*-C in English and maths (or equivalent), or can demonstrate through the assessment process that they will be able to achieve this. By completing a workplace audit the Apprenticeship Coordinator will be able to establish whether you are covering the right level of tasks in the workplace to support the criteria necessary for the on-site evidence.

Assessment

As an apprentice you can expect to undertake work based learning with an employer and to be paid a wage. The apprenticeship will include an NVQ diploma, functional skills and knowledge based element or technical certificate.
