Introduction to the Travel and Tourism Industry Level 1 Diploma at Northumberland College

Course description

This course is aimed at anyone looking to work in the Travel & Tourism Industry. It is a basic course that is intended for new entrants into the travel and tourism industry to gain an insight into what working in the industry involves.

Course content

You will gain an overview of the travel and tourism industry and the skills required for working for airlines, travel companies, leisure facilities and tourist attractions. Some of the units you will be studying include customer service, locational geography, travel & tourism itineraries and preparing for employment in travel & tourism. This course is ideal if you are interested in a career in the travel and tourism industry, but have few formal qualifications.

Entry requirements

You should have two GCSEs at Grade F or above and an interest in travel and tourism.


Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/ observations, written assignments, and short online multiple choice tests.

Future opportunities

After completing the course you could progress on to study level 2 in Travel and Tourism, look for further training or you could work in the travel and tourism industry.
