Apprenticeship in Trees and Timber (Intermediate Level 2) at Newton Rigg College
Work-based learning and assessment at your place of work with some college based study. Learners must be in a paid work placement to commence an apprenticeship programme. The work-based route involves practising and demonstrating a range of practical and theory skills and includes completing a Work-Based Diploma at Level 2 plus Functional Skills at an appropriate level.
• Chainsaw operations • Fencing • Control of pollution incidents • Identification of tree species • Tree planting, aftercare and maintenance • Chemical and mechanical weeding • English and maths
Personal Learning and Thinking Workbook. Plus additional opportunities exists to take NPTC/Lantra Qualifications specific to the role - additional charges may apply to student and or employer. Examples of some additional qualifications on the list are: CS30, CS31, CS38, CS39, Wood Chipper, Tractor Driving, PA1 and PA2 or 6, Manual Handling and First Aid.
No Formal entry qualifications. You need an appropriate work placement or employment. We may be able to help you to find a suitable position.

Apprentices successfully completing the
Apprenticeship can progress onto the Advanced
Apprenticeship in Trees and Timber or other Further
Education courses for example: Level 3 Extended Diploma in
Forestry and Arboriculture.
Forest Workers, Forest Rangers or Trainee Arborist.
