Course description

The purpose of a course in Latin is to acquire an understanding of some of the elements of classical civilisation, literature and language which have had a profound influence on modern societies, to fire imagination and to deepen and develop experience by considering a wide range of issues, such as aesthetic, ethical, linguistic, political, religious and social questions.

Future opportunities

Knowledge of Latin could be of direct benefit to those wishing to work as archaeologists or archivists. Graduates with Latin-based degrees also embark on a variety of careers in such fields as advertising, computer programming or even teaching! Latin will also be of benefit to those in Medicine and the Law and for those studying Romance languages.You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in History or related subjects such as English, American Studies, Politics, Archaeology or more general courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to classical civilisation by seeking employment in areas of heritage such as working for a museum or working as a History Teacher. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for. You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in Latin, Literature Studies, Modern Languages, History or more general higher education courses. With further training, you may wish to extend your interest in Latin and go into a job related to classical languages such as a Teacher or Researcher. You could also consider a job related to modern languages as the course will develop your understanding of different languages and cultures. The course also helps you develop the skills and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for. This may include using your language skills to work or study in foreign countries.
