Psychology at North Somerset Enterprise and Technology College

Course description

Psychology is the scientific exploration of behaviour. If you are interested in what makes people ‘tick’ and why they behave the way they do then Psychology could be the subject for you.

In addition Psychology will provide you with transferable skills such as developing research methods, understanding and interpreting data, critical analysis, debate and ability to form and justify a logical viewpoint, and strengthen written and verbal communication skills.

Course content

In this course you will study human behaviour and cognition, child development, biological and social psychology and methods of research.

Year 1 units include:

  • Cognitive psychology: memory
  • Child development
  • Biological Psychology
  • Abnormality
  • Social psychology
  • Research methods.

Year 2:

You will study relationships, aggression, gender and schizophrenia. There is also an emphasis on research methods, practical work and data analysis.

Throughout the course there will be a strong emphasis on practical learning, using the latest technologies and there will be opportunities to apply your learning in real-life briefs provided by our partners.

Entry requirements

You will need 5 A*-C GCSEs, including a grade C in a Science and if you have studied Psychology GCSE, a grade C in this subject too.

Future opportunities

Psychology will combine with many of the subjects available at NSETC.

You could go onto university to study Psychology at degree level or another related subject.

Psychology can lead to many careers including clinical, forensic, sports, health, occupational, criminal and educational psychology.
