Engineering 2850 - Levels 2 & 3 at Redcar & Cleveland College
The Certificates and Diplomas in Engineering will develop the knowledge and skills you need for a successful engineering career. You will cover essential subjects such as principles of engineering and fabrication and engineering technology. Optional subjects include working with sheet metals and wiring and testing electrical circuits.
There are optional units to suit career paths in mechanical manufacturing engineering. Subjects covered include:
- Using computer aided manufacturing processes
- Plant maintenance
- Electronic circuits
- Power supply.
Level 1: This level is ideal for school leavers considering a career in engineering and will provide a basic understanding of engineering principles. No formal entry requirements are required.
Level 2: Choose this level if you are a school leaver with some engineering knowledge and experience, or you require some engineering skills in your role. You will develop your understanding and practical experience of specific engineering technologies. It can also be used as part of an Engineering Apprenticeship. You will need four GCSEs at grades D-E or above, or a Level 1 pass.
Level 3: This provides more experienced learners with an understanding and practical experience of specialist engineering technologies and principles. It can also be used as part of an Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship. You will need four GCSEs at grade C or above, including Maths and Science, or Engineering BTEC Level 2 with an average grade of ‘merit’.
Assessment will be a mixture of practical assignments and written and on-line testing.
Progression from the Level 3 course will be to a Level 4 Engineering programme such as HNC in Mechanical Engineering. Completion of Level 3 bridging Maths and Science units may be required prior to commencing the Higher Education programme.
