Course description

This course is designed to help you develop the practical skills and knowledge required for a career in the building industry. The course is essential for those wanting to establish a career within construction as a bricklayer. In our approved training centre our highly-trained industry expert teachers provide you with the skills, knowledge and experience to become a bricklayer.

Course content

This course provides you with an insight into the construction industry. You will learn about safe working practice in construction and knowledge of construction technology.

You will learn how to work safely, understand quantities, building methods and technology, carry out structed and decorative and complex masonry structures.

You will learn about

  • Block laying skills
  • Bricklaying skills
  • Cavity walling
  • Basic masonary structures

You could go on to learn how to

  • Interpret working drawings
  • Build solid walling, isolate and attach piers
  • Build cavity walling forming masonry structures
  • Construct solid cavity walling

You will also learn employability skills. This diploma is widely recognised in the construction industry and could lead to a job as a bricklayer, working for a number of different companies and firms.

Entry requirements

Advanced Level Progression after intermediate Level

Intermediate Level Progression after Foundation Level

Foundation Level E/Fs or 1/2s at GCSE


The course will be assessed through practical projects, plus a portfolio of evidence and online examinations

Financial information

Full time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are EU citizens

Future opportunities

On completion of the course you can go directly into employment or progress to further training such as an Apprenticeship, NVQs or higher level construction qualifications in supervision and management
