Music at Derby High School
Music plays an especially important part in the life of the school. We offer our music in an outstanding facility with a suite of practice rooms, recording studio, Steinway grand piano and music ICT room. . Why study music at AS and A2?Music combines well with any other subject and, apart from performing and teaching, it has relevance for many careers options. The Edexcel specification includes performance, free composition, compositional techniques, listening and written work, set works; a combination employing a wide diversity of transferable skills.The one year AS qualification comprises three units:- (% of full A level)1. Performing Music 15% 2. Composing 15% 3. Developing Musical Understanding 20% (a) Listening (b) Investigating musical styles (c) Understanding chords and lines
Seven full GCSE passes (including English and Maths) at Grade B or above with at least a B in those subjects that the student wishes to study.
