Vehicle Maintenance (General) Entry Level Diploma at Darlington College

Course description

This general vehicle maintenance course will provide you with a basic understanding of vehicle systems and principles.

In addition to theory based lessons you will carry out practical work in the fully equipped workshops. These sessions provide the opportunity to work on modern vehicles and industrial standard equipment, learning basic vehicle maintenance skills including work on tyres, engines, exhausts and brakes.

If you have not achieved a C grade or above in English or maths, you will as part of your course be required to work towards this as part of your study programme.  You will be given the opportunity to go on work experience at certain times during your course.

To develop your employability opportunities you may also be given enrichment classes. This may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.

Course content

Teaching and learning is achieved by using a range of methods including taught classes, portfolio building, tutorials and workshops to support many of the unit assessments.

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications required. We will request a school or college report and you will attend an interview at the college.

Assessment

You will be assessed through; written portfolios and practical assessments.

Future opportunities

You will have the opportunity to progress to the Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance, with further progression to the Level 2 Diploma, once the Level 1 has been completed.

These courses can lead to opportunities for employment in vehicle maintenance industries such as; apprenticeships, workshop technicians and vehicle maintenance technicians.
