Hairdressing Diploma Level 2 at New College Nottingham

Course description

Hairdressing is a creative and rewarding career - whether you want to join a busy salon, become a freelance hairdresser, trainer, TV hair stylist, stylist on a cruise ship, or even open your own establishment one day - this course will set you on the right path to achieving this.

As well as learning the necessary practical skills of the trade, this course will also build your confidence, and help you to master the all important people skills that are essential when working face to face with customers on a daily basis.

With its real working salons and excellent links to local employers, you will gain on-the-job experience, ensuring you are prepared and ready for the workplace.

Cutting, colouring and styling people’s hair is a skilled profession and in Nottingham you could earn up to £18k by becoming a hairdresser or barber, and up to 32k if you manage your own salon.

Our friendly teaching staff are experienced stylists, on-hand to offer advice and support as well as encourage you to reach your full potential.

Course content

Throughout the duration of the course you can expect hands-on learning to ensure you master all the required techniques, as well as theory-based modules to equip you with the knowledge and understanding you’ll need to succeed in this field.

As well as an introduction to the industry as a whole, you will also be given in depth training in cutting; setting; blow-drying; colouring; perming; health and safety in the workplace, customer service, reception skills, and general salon duties.

Delivered by qualified and experienced hair stylists, this course focuses on your practical development as well as all the related theory.

Please note: for NVQ routes you will require a minimum two days per week work placement.

Entry requirements

You must have the following: 

4 GCSE's at grade D or above including English and Maths (one at grade C) and Science at A*- D. Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE English and/or Maths.

Students with previous hairdressing experience will also be considered.

Adults 19+ who have industry experience BUT do not have the necessary qualifications can be invited in for interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a combination of practical observations, assignments, portfolio, and theory-based units and tests.

Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing.
