Art & Design AS A2 at Wrenn Academy

Course content

Do you enjoy using your creative and practical abilities?  Do you enjoy experimentation and research-based study? Are you prepared to commit yourself to a programme which demands self discipline and enthusiasm for the subject …………… if so, then an A level course in Art could be for you.In offering this course, we aim to broaden your range of creative experience, then focus on specific areas of artistic study.  We offer options such as painting, printmaking, mixed-media, sculpture and photography. There will be exciting opportunities to visit galleries and exhibitions.  Each year, in the autumn term, we run a residential trip during which students learn to address art issues related to art history and our contemporary world.  This enhances practical work and contributes towards a ‘personal study’ which forms a significant part of the A Level course.  Previously, students have visited St Ives, Cornwall and Barcelona, Spain.Purpose built studio space, an in-house gallery (GALLERY @ Wrenn) and photography, darkroom, provide top rate facilities.  Students often have the opportunity to attend workshops run by visiting artists, in addition to the life drawing sessions run after school in the spring term.We stress the vocational opportunities in Art and Design.  Many students go into Foundation Courses and Art College from which openings can emerge in advertising, product design, graphic design, fashion and textiles, marketing, amongst many more.  We have links with Northampton and Derby Universities and are in the process of forging additional links with industry and other Colleges of Further Education; this has enabled us to establish a careers area within the Department
