Course description

This applied A-level Business course is ideal for students who want to take more responsibility for their own learning . Focused on the real world of work and everyday life, it is an active and enjoyable way to not only gain valuable insights into current business practice but also to develop the key, work related skills that employers and universities increasingly demand.

Applied A-level Business is an ideal qualification for students who want a broad background in business to enter further education, training or employment in the following business related careers: marketing, Accounting and finance, human resources or operations management.

AS modules/units

Unit 1: Creating a Marketing Proposal

Unit 2: Recruitment in the Workplace

Unit 3: Understanding the Business Environment

AS assessment

Units 1 and 2 are assessed through a coursework portfolio. Unit 3 is assessed through a 90 min external examination based on a pre-released case study.

A2 modules/units

Unit 9: Strategic Decision Making

Unit 10: A Business Plan for the Entrepreneur

Unit 17: Promotion in Action

A2 assessment

Units 10 and 17 are assessed through a coursework portfolio. Unit 9 is assessed through a 90 min external examination based on a pre-released case study

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language and Mathematics. You don’t need to have studied Business Studies previously at GCSE.
